ALTERATIVES. Such medicines as have a power of changing the constitution, without any sensible increase or diminution of the natural evacuations. The following alterative ball has been administered with the greatest success:—Cinnabar of antimony, three ounces ; balsam of sulphur, two ounces; camphor, one ounce; nitre, four ounces. To be made into ten balls, one of which may be given weekly to horses of gross habit. Alteratives not only keep off inflammatory attacks, but improve the general health.
