BBB A+ Rating

I have read some of the very interesting articles on firearms, which have been published in your department. I am writing to give my ideas of a few weapons to the readers.

My favorite arms are the .22 Smith and Wesson target revolver, the .45 Colt automatic, the .22 Savage Model 1019, N. R. A. bolt action rifle, the .250-3000 Savage Model 1920 bolt-action rifle, the .30 Springfield U. S. Army rifle and the .333 Jeffrey-Mauser bolt-action rifle. All of these rifles are very accurate, finely made and reliable. Other weapons that I think highly of are the .22 Savage Model 1914 -trombone action rifle, the .35 Winchester Model 1805 lever-action, the .303 Savage Model 1899 lever-action and the .38 Smith & Wesson Military revolver. It can be easily seen by perusing the above given names, that I am a lover of the Savage and the Smith & Wesson products. I consider the Savage pistols and rifles and the Smith & Wesson revolvers the finest made stock arms in America. I don't say "in the world" because I know very little of the foreign arms. Nevertheless, a foreign revolver would have to be very fine indeed to surpass our Smith & Wesson.

I thought a great deal of the Newton rifles and was very sorry to learn that the Newton Company had "gone under."

Of rifle actions I prefer the bolt-action first and last. It is more reliable and easier to take apart and to put together and it is far stronger which is a good thing with the high pressures of modern ammunition. The next best in my estimation is the slide-action such as that of the Model 14 Remington. Then comes the lever action of the Savage, which I like better than that of any of the Winchesters. I don't favor automatic actions in rifles.

Shotguns I don't like a bit. I own a Model 1897 Winchester 12 gauge pump gun, which is, I believe, a highly thought of weapon. Shotguns may have their place but I fail to see them.
