ALASKA, INFORMATION ABOUT | |

ALASKA, INFORMATION ABOUT—I am thinking of going to Alaska. Can you give me any information regarding railroad and boat fare, the time one should arrive there; the beat place to locate for good hunting and trapping; and any other information, such as building lodges, camping, camp equipment, etc.? Have you any literature on Alaska? Do you think that one could make expenses or more?
That is a pretty big question, and I don’t feel that I could give much reliable information. From what you say I think you must be thinking of locating there permanently, with money-making in view. If I were going there for that purpose, and didn’t know anything more about it than I do now, I would go to the interior, and probably into the Yukon Province of Canada, as that appears to be the place where the most valuable furs are found, and in greatest numbers. There is also good trapping along the south east coast, with a greater variety of game, and less severe winters, and the cost of supplies is less there. Our books Camp and Trait Methods and Land Cruising and Prospecting will tell you all you want to know about camp building, equipment, forest travel, etc. You can get railroad rates to Seattle, Wash., from your local ticket agent. For steamship rates to Alaskan ports, write to P. C. Steamship Co, Seattle, Wash.
