The lever action was once used in rifles, shotguns and a few handguns; it is still very popular as a rifle action, in part due to the fast handling characteristics of the fine model 94 Winchester and Marlin lever actions. The lever of the lever action is usually located under the receiver, forming the trigger guard and following the lines of the stock to the rear of the pistol grip.
