6 MM WINCHESTER-LEE—I would like to know something about the 6 m/m Winchester-Lee rifle. Has it sufficient power for moose, bear and other big game? Is it accurate? How many rounds of the copper jacketed bullets would it shoot accurately? Can cartridges be had loaded with the new wire- patched bullets?
If I am not mistaken the manufacture of the rifle has been discontinued, anyway it is no longer advertised or catalogued by the Winchester Company. It was one of the extremes of the small bore type and was not a great success. At short range it had great power and gave a penetration of 60 boards. The muzzle velocity was about 2500 feet per second. At long range it lost rapidly in velocity and at thousand yards would not give as much penetration as the .45-70 government. The caliber was too small and as a consequence the bullet was too light for great power.
