.32-40 vs. .38.40—Can you tell me why the .32-40 is chosen by so many sportsmen in preference to the .38-40? As I understand their power is about the same when using H. V. cartridges.
I think that the principal reason is that the 38-40 H. V. is a comparatively new cartridge and sportsmen accustomed to considering the .38-40 black powder cartridge as having very little power have generally overlooked it. It is not as long range, however, as the .32-40, but in my opinion the .38-40 Winchester has a superior action.
