.32-20 MARLIN 1894—Do you consider the .32-20 Marlin 1394 with the high velocity smokeless loads a sufficient arm for a trapper in the Northern Minnesota woods? The game is wolves, deer, etc.
I should think so, but I should carry some black powder lead bullet shells, too. On the North Shore of Lake Superior the best trappers carried 22 caliber repeaters—bait guns. Usually but not always, they carry a revolver of good caliber, and some had Lugers with stocks. A trapper would better trap, and not hunt, I think. As a trapper, you are after fur, and with snares, traps, and a bait gun you are equipped, except in a wolf country, where you must be prepared to fight wolves-though you probably will not have to. I’ve known a winter’s trapping to be spoiled by good deer hunting.
