30 or 36 Inch Shotgun Barrel | |
|
36 INCH BARRELS vs 30 INCH—will a gun with 36 inch barrel shoot harder than a gun with a 30 inch barrel, with same gauge and same choke?
The smaller the bore the shorter the barrel may be and manufacturers generally build them so, but quite a range of length from the standard, both ways, may be used, and no difference in the shooting will appear. If the gun is to be used for duck shooting I don’t think the barrels should be much below the standard length, but on the other hand I don’t think there is anything gained by using longer barrels. For such shooting I would choose 30 inch barrels tor a 12 gauge and 32 inch for a 10 gauge. For upland hunting I would use nothing larger than 12 gauge and the nicest length is about 28 inches, while a gun as small as a 16 or 20 gauge may have 26 inch barrels,
