.25-25 STEVENS—I would like some information regarding the shooting qualities of the .25-25 Stevens Rifle.
I have used one for five years and it is the best all-around rifle I have ever had, I believe it is powerful enough to stop any game at ordinary ranges, and at the same time it will not spoil small game. When reloading for small game it is not necessary to have a mold as a No. 8 buckshot is of the same caliber and will fit it exactly. It will shoot round balls accurately but should be oiled frequently, especially during cold weather, or it will lead. I have a wad-cutter and use cardboard wads on the powder. The ordinary reloading tool will handle the round bullet. Do not put too much pressure on the wads when loading or you will expand the shell. My rifle is fitted with the Lyman Combination front sight and I find that I can do better shooting with it than with the sporting front sight. When I say I believe it will kill any game, I mean when the game is hit, as it should be, in a vital place.
