.22 Shoots Crosswise-Bullets Tumbling-What causes a bullet to stagger or turn crosswise? Is there any way to prevent it. The gun is a .22 caliber and has been fired about 2,000 times. Could the barrel be worn out?
If the gun has been well taken care of it should show no signs of wear after shooting 2,000 rounds. Any .22 caliber rifle is likely to throw the bullets crosswise if not kept clean. Perhaps the barrel is leaded and if a good cleaning with rags and oil will not remedy the trouble try pouring a small quantity of mercury in the barrel, the end having been corked, and rill it back and forth from the breech to the muzzle for a half hour. Then clean with rags and oil.
