.22 MARLIN—I want to buy a Marlin rifle, 1892 Model, for hunting small game, and for shooting cattle and hogs; which caliber would you advise,—the .22 or the .32?
Get the .22 by all means. The .32 rimfire never was as popular as the .22 and is rapidly becoming obsolete. The 22’s are less powerful, but are all right for any small game, up to foxes, etc., and are good to kill cattle and hogs for butchering, especially when using the long rifle cartridge. The .22 is also the most accurate, and the ammunition is cheaper. Smokeless cartridges with greaseless bullets may also be had, and for this reason the .22 is a much cleaner cartridge than the .32.
