.22 Long Rifle Preferred-I am going to get a rifle that will handle the .22 Long Rifle cartridge only, if such a one is chambered and rifled correctly for that shell. What one would you recommend for that cartridge? I have been thinking of the Marlin Model 20. Is the .22 Long Rifle the most accurate of the twenty-two’s , and the best for hunting purposes? I want to use only the one style of cartridge in my rifle.
Your resolution to use only one length of .22 caliber cartridge in your rifle is a good rifle is a good one. All of the repeating rifles made to handle the three lengths of cartridge are really made for the .22 Long Rifle cartridge, being rifled for it, but of course the .22 Short and .22 Long may be used in the same gun, and as many people want to use all three lengths, the guns are advertised as adapted to these three cartridges. I think you will find the Marlin Model 20 perfectly satisfactory. Another very good rifle, which I like very much is the Model 1890 Winchester. It does not use the .22 Long Rifle cartridges, but is made for the .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire, which is equally god or perhaps better for hunting. The Remington Target grade repeater is also a fine one, and so is the Model 1903 Savage. I like the heavier rifles in the twenty-two’s, but perhaps you do not.
