.22 Hollow Point-Would the Marlin repeating rifle, Model 1897, be more effective on game when using the .22 Short with mushroom bullet than when the same cartridge with solid bullet is used, up to fifty yards?
I really do not believe that there is any difference worth mentioning in the killing power of the .22 Short, hollow point, and the solid bullet of the same cartridge, anyway I could see no difference in the performance of these two bullets in my own use of them. However, the object in making bullets with hollow points is to make them more deadly, and many shooters are of the opinion that they will game much better than the solid lead bullets. It is my opinion that in order to make a hollow point bullet more effective than a solid one it must be driven at a much greater velocity than is imparted to the bullet of a .22 short.
