.22 FOR COON—Please toll what kind of rifle and what caliber would be good to use where there is no game larger than a coon. What will it cost?
It seems to me that a .22 caliber rifle would be large enough to answer your purpose. I can recommend the Winchester model ‘90, .22 Winchester rim fire, the Stevens Repeating Gallery Rifle No. 80, of the same caliber, the .22 Automatic Winchester, the Marlin model ‘97, using the long rifle cartridge and the Remington “Target” model. All of these rifles are O. K. and you will find the prices in the sporting goods dealer’s catalogs. You speak of using this gun also for woodchuck. You could shoot them in the summer and at $1 each you should be able to make money but the .22 caliber is scarcely heavy enough for woodchucks, and if you want a rifle for such game, I would suggest that you try the Stevens No. 80, .25 caliber or the Marlin, or Winchester .25-20.
