16 or 20 Gauge Instead of a 12 Gauge Shotgun
Is a 16- or 20-gauge heavy enough for all classes of game usually killed with the shotgun?
For both water and upland game the 12-gauge is standard and will give the better satisfaction. The smaller sizes are ideal for quail, prairie chickens, rabbits and partridge and have made good kills upon the water and marshes, but as they have a much smaller quantity of shot to spread their pattern is not so close and a finer aim is necessary. If one cares to have two guns a 20 and a 12 he would possess an ideal outfit. If but one is desired, however, the 12 should certainly be chosen.
