For fur bearing animals we have mink, weasel skunk, wolf and plenty of muskrats. There used to be plenty of bears around here, but have not seen any for a couple of years. There used to be lynx, but there is not any around here now. Mink are getting scarce. Last year I started trapping the first of December and I kept on till after Christmas. In that time I caught 28 muskrats and one skunk and nine weasels. The price was very low on account of the European war. Two boys around here caught three skunks and they received $1.50 for them because they were so careless in doing the skinning. I did the best I could and received $1.35 for one skunk I received in all $10.35 for my furs.
The last of February and first of March I started trapping again until the season closed. In that time I caught 54 muskrats. I received $9.08 for this catch. Muskrats are so plentiful that they are doing some damage to the land close to the river.
For guns, I have two double barrel shotguns and one .38-56 rifle, repeater, nine shots. I also have one tent 9x9, ten ounces, duck, which cost $5.65, one camp stove which cost $3.50.
For game we have ducks, partridges, and prairie chickens and a few deer and moose.
Will some of the readers let me know how to fix a boat for two men and their outfit? I will be very thankful to those who can let me know.
