HUNTING AND TRAPPING IN TEXAS | |
|
Well, comrades of the trapline and trail, guess you are all making preparations for a big catch the coming season, as the animals are more plentiful than for many years on account of the war.
I spent last winter in Idaho with fair success but us my partner was drafted into the army I decided to come back and spend one more winter in the grand old state of Texas, as I have hunted and trapped for thirty-one years within her boundary lines, with fair success every year.
Seventeen of these years I hunted and trapped wolves and coyotes, both summer and winter for the big cattle outfits in the western part of the state. My biggest one weeks catch of wolves and coyotes was made in Crockett county where I caught 143 coyotes and 11 lobo wolves, two bobcats, 17 skunks.
My outfit for the coming season consists of a Ford car, tent, camping outfit, 351 Winchester self-loading rifle, one 38-40 revolver, 250 traps, all of them are the good old standby No. 4 jumps with teeth and I never use anything smaller and it's a lucky wolf or coyote that ever gets away when once caught with a fair hold.
Well, brother hunters and trappers, I wish all a dandy season and a big catch.
Chas. Burgess, Texas.
