My cousin and I were still-hunting deer in Lake Butler Florida last weekend, when he had some of his worst hunting luck. He got into his climbing stand, got up the tree and started waiting. Not an hour later, a family of hogs wandered out of the brush, and he decided to take the biggest one, which was around 240 lbs. He got his Remington 700 up, sighted in on the hog, and pulled the trigger. "Click" He had forgotten to make sure there was a cartridge in his gun once he got into position. Of course, the noise he made pulling the bolt back and getting a cartridge in scared away the hogs. The moral of the story is, quietly make sure your gun is loaded, but on safety, once you get situated in your blind or stand. It’s easy to forget.
