Will fur trimmings be as popular next fall as they were during the passing season ? This is a question which means much to the fur trade. We understand that some important cloak and suit houses have already bought large quantities of opossum and raccoon, having profited by the experience of last summer and fall and not wishing to be caught this season with large orders for fur-trimmed garments and insufficient stocks of skins to fill them.
Another straw which points towards the theory that the coming season will see fur trimmings as popular as last, is the action of beaver prices. Last fall prices of beaver skins were driven to very high levels because of the demand for beaver trimmings. When the cloak and suit trade closed its season in the fall, the demand for beaver fell off, and prices declined. Little business has been done in beaver skins since, except to a limited extent.
But now there is a more favorable sentiment towards beaver; prices are hardening and it looks as though it was the demand—present or prospective—from the cloak and suit trade, which is responsible for the better feeling toward this fur.
