FUR AUCTION - AMERICAN ENTERPRISE | |
|
A fur paper published in London recently printed a long article in which it is intimated that one of the principal incentives back of the public fur auction sales which have been inaugurated in New York and St. Louis, is a desire to injure the business of London fur merchants. This move on the part of American fur men is spoken of as being inspired largely by their Leipzig connections and the whole movement is referred to as part of Germany's plan to "punish" England.
We think our worthy contemporary in London has the wrong idea. The fur auction sales in the United States are American in conception, American in management and American in spirit. Fur merchants from all parts of the world, including all of the countries now at war, are welcome to buy or sell in these sales, which are simply a manifestation of American enterprise. In this country all can meet in a democratic spirit of fair competition, leaving behind old theories and animosities.
